For a few weeks now, Microsoft Search has been supporting interleaved results for Microsoft Graph Connectors, SharePoint Online and Teams documents. This means, you get one result list with one set of filters for documents which are natively indexed from O365 and which you index through the Graph Connectors, e.g. those from Raytion.
Interleaved results are search results that are indexed from multiple sources and displayed in a uniform list. For example instead of showing results of one specific source in one vertical, you will get a mixture of results from different sources, ranked by their relevance. The feature eases the user journey so that users can access information quicker, more easily and benefit from a personalized search experience.
Searching for Outlook and Teams Messages
Moreover, the new release brings single request federation. This is a round-robin approach for merging results from content sources evenly, where interleaving is not yet supported. Our customers use this approach when searching for Microsoft Teams messages and Outlook emails. Not only does the Search Center render chat message and email results in a handy layout, but you can also configure it to have both sources in one search result list. Here the search center even offers filters for drilling down into one or the other sources, as well as to filter-based on the sent-date of the items.
